As many of you have already read, I drive a taxi sometimes. Well, it seems that I will be driving a taxi more often now. The owner of the company that leases me the taxi made me a very special offer which allows me to keep the taxi 24 hours a day and work as little or much as I like, provided that I make a deposit of X amount of money everyday. The price is $20 less than what I was paying. So, I took the offer on a two-week trial basis.

I picked up a gentleman who flagged me down at the local mall. He told me that he only had one shoe and no money but that if I would take him to his destination "on consignment" he was sure that the group home would pay the $10 for the cab ride when we got to the destination. I take him. He asks to get out to go get the money. I give him a tract with the headline of "God Loves You!" and let him go in to get the money. As I have mentioned before, I drive a taxi part time. I where my collar and clerical shirt the entire time. I don't bring up religion into the conversation, but if someone else does I will talk with them as much as they would like. Many times it is simply a remember me in your prayers.

Isn't it disturbing how corporations have grown to be more powerful than governments. Everything is based on the bottom line or doing whatever is profitable that they can get away with. Gone is the humanity; customer service; pride of ownership; even the something as personal as beliefs and religion are commercialized in our society.
